Opening a Bank Account

Required documents:

  1. Valid passport
  2. Residence permit or proof of submission of a residence permit application
  3. Most recent income tax statement (or certificate of non-obligation to file)
  4. Proof of employment or studies (e.g., employer certificate, enrollment certificate from an educational institution)
  5. Tax Identification Number (AFM) – required for all bank accounts
  6. Social Security Number (AMKA) – usually required for payroll or insurance accounts
  7. Proof of residential address: rental agreement registered in TAXISnet, statement of accommodation, or utility bill (electricity/water) in your name or the property owner’s name
  8. Certificate from your mobile phone provider for your phone number
  9. Email address for e-banking activation

Note: Depending on the individual case and after verification of the submitted information, additional documents may be requested, or extra security checks may be applied. Most of the Greek Banks employ electronic procedures of opening a Bank Account.
